Labor Day weekend was teed up to be a great time. I had taken Friday off of work and the three of us were planning a 4-day weekend of food, wine and pool in Winston-Salem with the Fussell clan. But Murphy's law had other ideas, when I got a late afternoon call from DCA Thursday afternoon to pick up our sick boy of 102 fever and contagious stomach bug. After 1 good night we gave it a solid effort to make good on our plans, but were given no choice around South Carolina to bag it and head home. I'm sure you'll thank me to not trouble you with the gory details.
But we tried to rise above the disappointment and have a good weekend anyway. Ben headed to Auburn for the first time in 2 years and once Matty's short-lived illness ran it's course and he was back to normal, the two of us went exploring in the backyard and had such fun playing Browning Paleontologists! What started as a simple pretend comment from Matty that he'd found a fossil turned into binoculars, "chisels" and other tools for a full on dinosaur excavation! Exposed tree and bush roots and stones were such exciting treasures, and Matty worked hard and successfully unearthed an eon's old T Rex bone. What a prodigy.
