As Mary Poppins says you have to "feed the birds," which is something Matty and I did this weekend to celebrate the coming of fall. But our way did not cost us tuppence.
The other morning before school, Matty was excited to find some perfect pinecones in our driveway. To hurry him on his way to the car, I gathered them up and promised to save them for something special. Peanut butter / bird seed pinecone feeders would be a perfect treat for the menagerie of winged friends in our yard. Cardinals, towhees, jays, woodpeckers, juncos, finch, chickadees all call our yard a popular diner, if not their permanent home, and will need their energy to get ready for the coming colder weather!
Last night 7 chubby feeders were dangling from our dogwood and the birds were slowly finding them. Of course this evening after work and school, only 4 remained. I am sure there is one fat and happy raccoon out there somewhere!
After our morning project, to burn off some extra energy before nap the three of us played a little "monster chase" in the backyard.
I guess I shouldn't be surprised it took the birds a few hours to find their way back!
